Colonel Beaumont Portman Square, London

Dear Madam

I wrote to you fully by the last Post& have this day been favoured with your Letter of the 26th. I congtartulate you & Colonel Beaumont on our Troubles & Anxiety being at an End. I hope for the present (on Account of the Lead Pay etc). There are not any Hopes of Aid from the Bank of Surtees & Burdon for some time; should there be a Letter from Mr Bowns in my Absence. Tho[ma]s Crawhall will answer it. The 2nd Instalment from Easterby & Hall amounting to £4,423914-1 was rec[eive]d Yesterday in four Bills at two M[onth]s for which I am promised by Easterby & Doubleday Bank Notes in ten days; the other Bills which I may receive shall be sent to Colonel Beaumont but when you leave Town, I imagine that they must be remitted to Sir R[ichar]d Carr Glyn Bt C. Mills, Halifax & Co. with whom an Acco[unt] must be opened. I observe that Mr Baker has very kindly given his assistance in this Business. Mr Davison’s Conduct in this Business cannot possibly be justified; he has certainly behaved in it very ill, the more he stirs in it, the more Blame will he incur, as well as Discredit to his Bank. I hope that this may find you & Colonel Beaumont much better.

      I am etc. J. E. B.
