My Dear Sir

I have the Favour of your Letter of the 2d. Inst. & observe that Col: Beaumont has opened an Account with your Bank for the transacting the whole of his Business for the future in the Manner which you describe, which I assure you is a great Satisfaction to me; but I have some Doubt whether the Bank of Sir Wm. Loraine & Co. after having accepted of the Terms proposed to them by Mr. Bowns, will think it an Object worth their engaging in, to transact Col: Beaumonts Money Concerns at this Place in the Manner which you propose.

At the great Lead Pay, as well as the monthly Mine Payments of between two & £3,000 – in Notes, one half, & probably three parts, instead of circulating in the Country as formerly, will probably come back to them in a Week or ten Days, for which they are under a Necessity of either paying Cash or Bills on London at a very short Date, ten or fourteen Days; this they have already experienced.

The Balance at present in the Bank of Sir Wm. Loraine & Co. in favour of Col: Beaumont will not be £200; they have Bills which will become due the end of this Month, which may about answer for the Payments at that Time; the same will be the Case in Decr.; I would beg leave to recommend that the Balance should then be finally struck, & the Amount, with such Bills as I may possibly receive at that time be remitted to your Bank, to which I sincerely wish every Success. I am &c. –J.E.B.

A two year community project, it was led by the Friends of the North Pennines in partnership with Hexhamshire and Slaley Parish Councils and the active support of Allendale Estates.
